More than twenty classic motorcycle clubs have taken the opportunity to join in the fun at the established Classic Motor Show on November 14-16.

All the traditional motorcycle marques will be on display at the NEC, near Birmingham, in the UK from 14th to 16th November for what should be a great day out for fans of historic motorcycles.

Vincent HRD 60 Years Old

It will be 1948 again on the Vincent HRD stand where they will focus on the clubs 60th birthday. It shares that honour with the hugely desirable and probably most famous of all Vincent motorcycles: the Black Shadow.

The display will also include the first ever Black Lightning. Only 16 of these exceptional machines were ever built. It was evolved from the bike that Rollie Free used to set an American national speed record of 150mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Built to special order only this Black Lightning version of the Black Shadow was 100lb lighter and had 25 more horsepower than the standard bike.

Other exhibits will representing the 80 year history of Vincent motorcycles.

Triumph Bonneville – Golden Jubilee

The Bonneville theme continues as the Triumph Owners’ Motor Cycle Club will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Bonneville. As well as a 1968 Trident there will be 24 bikes on the stand including a 1948 Grand Prix Triumph.

Another 60th Anniversary – BSA Bantam

Many visitors, middle-aged or older, will remember the little two-stroke BSA Bantam as the motorcycle used by postmen in the 1950s. Many first motorcycles were ex-General Post Office Bantams still in their red livery. It gave many young men in the 1950s and 60s freedom; nostalgia will reign as like those youngsters the BSA Bantam Club has reached 60!

Classic Japanese Bikes at the Classic Motor Show

Many Japanese bikes are now classics and all the major manufacturers will be well represented at Classic Bikes at the Classic Motor Show.

Honda Turbo motorcycles: CX00 Turbo and CX650 Turbo will be on UK Honda Turbo Association stand. The chairman, Tim Boutle, drag-races a highly modified CX650 Turbo running on nitrous oxide. He broke the World Record for Production Turbos with 188mph – impressive for a pushrod 650cc twin.

The Yamaha Classic Racing Team will have a stand and will have Chas Mortimer’s 1972 TT YZ23C. Also on the stand will be the bike that Chas used to win the 1972 500 Spanish Grand Proix which was also ridden by Rod Gould. Both riders will be at the show as will other classic Yamahas.

“ChiPs” Star

The Historic Police Motorcycle Club will go back to the 70s with a Kawasaki 1000P which is better known as the motorcycle star of the American TV Show ChiPs.

Ace Cafe Replica

There will be a replica of the iconic biker haunt , the Ace Cafe which will be celebrating its 70th anniversary. Founder Mike Wilsmore will be on the Classic Bike Stage talking about that 70 year history. In support will be a display of classic cafe racers including the latest, known as Little Miss Dynamite.

Feature Stand

Sponsors of the Classic Bike hall the specialist insurance broker Footman James with the Vintage Motor Cycle Clube will provide a majestic feature stand which will be worth seeing.

A Great Day Out

There is enough to make it a great out especially as tickets include entry to the Classic Motor Show for those that also have an interest in classic cars. A brief review is now available.

Either way it could be turned into a great weekend by including a visit to the nearby National Motorcycle Museum which is just the other side of the motorway.

NEC is easily reached by bike, car, and train . The show is open 10am-6.30pm on Friday, 9.30am-6.30pm Saturday and 9.30am-5.30pm on Sunday.
